Salbutamol

Short-acting beta-2 agonist (SABA) for acute bronchospasm.

Generic name: Salbutamol (albuterol)
Brand names: Ventolin, Asthalin, Salbutamol Stada

Dosage

Inhaler: 1–2 puffs (100 µg each) up to 4 times daily as needed. Nebulizer: 2.5–5 mg every 4–6 hours.

Side effects

Tremor, palpitations, tachycardia, hypokalemia at high doses.

Contraindications

Salbutamol hypersensitivity; caution with hyperthyroidism, severe ischemic heart disease.

Salbutamol stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors on bronchial smooth muscle, providing relief within minutes. Standard reliever inhaler for asthma and COPD exacerbations.
