Diclofenac

Pain reliever

NSAID for musculoskeletal pain, also available as topical gel.

Generic name: Diclofenac sodium
Brand names: Voltaren, Cataflam, Voltarol

Dosage

Adults: 50 mg two or three times daily orally, or 100 mg sustained release once daily. Topical gel: apply 2–4 g 3–4 times daily.

Side effects

GI bleeding, increased cardiovascular event risk, raised liver enzymes, fluid retention.

Contraindications

Active peptic ulcer, severe heart failure, history of stroke / MI / coronary bypass surgery, third trimester of pregnancy.

Description

Diclofenac is a potent NSAID with strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Often prescribed for acute musculoskeletal injury, postoperative pain, dental pain, gout flares, and chronic arthritides. Topical gel offers local action with minimal systemic exposure.
