Dosage

Adults: 25 mg twice or three times daily, max 150 mg/day. Sublingual for hypertensive urgency: 12.5–25 mg.

Side effects

Dry cough, taste disturbance, rash, hyperkalemia.

Contraindications

Pregnancy, prior angioedema, bilateral renal artery stenosis.

Description

Captopril is a prototype ACE inhibitor with a short half-life and rapid onset. Common Vietnamese first-line oral agent for chronic hypertension and a community-standard sublingual choice for hypertensive urgency at primary-care level.
