Definition

A single certificate issued by the competent authority of a Hague Apostille Convention member state, replacing the multi-step consular legalisation chain for foreign public documents. Vietnam deposited its instrument of accession on 31 December 2025; the Convention enters into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026. From that date, apostille replaces consular legalisation for documents originating from member states, including CPPs for drugs and CFS for medical devices. Documents from non-member states continue to require consular legalisation.
